GI-MAP

Gastrointestinal Microbial Assay Plus

At-home DNA stool test. Only requires 1 day and 1 sample, sent directly to your door. The Gastrointestinal Microbial Assay Plus (GI-MAP®) was designed to assess a patient's microbiome from a single stool sample, with particular attention to microbes that may be disturbing normal microbial balance and contributing to perturbations in the GI microbiota or illness. The panel is a comprehensive collection of microbial targets as well as immune and digestive markers. It screens for pathogenic bacteria, commensal bacteria, opportunistic pathogens, fungi, viruses, and parasites, using automated DNA analysis to give functional medicine practitioners a deeper view into the gastrointestinal microbiome. Unlike other comprehensive stool tests on the market, the GI-MAP provides truly quantitative results. qPCR offers a significantly more accurate way to detect and quantify clinically-relevant organisms than standard PCR, culture, microscopy, or DNA sequencing-based methods.

What it measures

A complete microbial & mucosal read-out.

GI-MAP screens for pathogens, opportunists, parasites, fungi, and viruses alongside the digestive and immune markers that give that data clinical meaning.
02
Bacterial Pathogens
C. difficile, Campylobacter, E. coli pathotypes, Salmonella, Shigella, Yersinia, Vibrio.
03
Viral Pathogens
Adenovirus 40/41 and Norovirus GI/GII: the major viral causes of acute GI symptoms.
04
Parasitic Pathogens
Cryptosporidium, Entamoeba histolytica, and Giardia: the highest-yield protozoan pathogens.
05
Parasitic Protozoa
Blastocystis hominis, Chilomastix mesnili, Cyclospora, Dientamoeba, Endolimax nana, Pentatrichomonas.
06
Parasitic Worms
Ancylostoma, Necator, Ascaris, Trichuris: soil-transmitted helminths picked up by DNA.
07
H. pylori with Virulence Factors
Quantified H. pylori plus 7 virulence factors (cagA, vacA, babA, dupA, iceA, oipA, virB) that change risk.
08
Normal Bacterial Flora
Bacteroidetes, Firmicutes, Bifidobacter, Lactobacillus: the foundational commensals.
09
Opportunistic Bacteria
Citrobacter, Klebsiella, Pseudomonas, Staph, Streptococcus, Methanobacter: the overgrowth crew.
10
Fungi / Yeast
Candida species, Geotrichum, Microsporidia, Rhodotorula: quantified, not just present/absent.
11
Digestion
Elastase-1, steatocrit, beta-glucuronidase. Pancreatic function and how well fat is being broken down.
12
Immune Response
Secretory IgA and anti-gliadin antibodies: mucosal immunity at the gut barrier.
13
Inflammation
Calprotectin: the marker that helps distinguish IBS from IBD-class inflammation.
14
Antibiotic Resistance Genes
Vancomycin, beta-lactamase, and macrolide resistance genes: useful before reaching for antimicrobials.
15
Occult Blood
Hemoglobin in the stool, flags bleeding worth following up in primary care.
Why GI-MAP

Unlike standard stool tests, GI-MAP uses qPCR (quantitative DNA analysis) to detect and measure organisms with a precision that older culture, microscopy, and sequencing methods can't match. It's the panel we reach for first when symptoms point at the gut.
