A single plate tests a standard-sized room (12 ft × 12 ft) and detects over 50 genera of mold, including all species associated with indoor air quality problems.
What it measures

A room-by-room fingerprint of the indoor mycobiome.

Plates capture the airborne spore load wherever you set them. Common indoor genera below, the lab also flags water-damage indicators (Stachybotrys, Chaetomium) when present.

Aspergillus / Penicillium
Lumped together visually; the indoor workhorses. Elevated counts point to ongoing moisture or organic-material breakdown.

Cladosporium
The most common outdoor mold worldwide and a frequent infiltrator indoors via windows and HVAC.

Stachybotrys (Black Mold)
A water-damage indicator. Growth on plates from indoor air strongly suggests active or recent water intrusion.

Another water-damage indicator, typically grows on chronically wet drywall, baseboards, and subflooring.

Plates must be stored at room temperature before testing. Lab kits are non-refundable once shipped.

Important notes

  • Children and pets are very curious about the testing plates. Please be cautious about putting the plates within their reach during testing.
  • Results are aimed to be sent to you within 10 days of when you took the sample. However, if there is a slow-growing mold, the lab may require additional incubation time.
  • The yellow agar in the bottom of the plates is made of 93% water, so condensation is very normal. As long as the plates have at least 1/8" of agar and are not past their expiration date, they will work well for testing.
  • Please check the back of the plate for an expiration date.
  • If you are not going to use your plates within one month of receipt, you can place them in the refrigerator. Store the plates upside down, agar facing down, label facing up.
