Fast-Acting Nutrients for Restful Sleep*

Super Sleep contains great-tasting, lemon-flavored tablets formulated to support restful sleep and promote the calming of brain activity.

This product features melatonin, a multifunctional hormone involved in the circadian (day/night) biological rhythms, and 5-hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP), a precursor to the neurotransmitter serotonin. These tablets also contain vitamin B6, inositol, and L-theanine for additional help in supporting the body’s natural ability to fall asleep and stay asleep.

Benefits

• Supports quality sleep
• Promotes calming of brain activity

Ingredients

Melatonin

A multifunctional hormone secreted by the pineal gland whose main role is to help regulate sleep by controlling the circadian rhythm. Melatonin mediates the body’s response to variations of natural light availability from indoor/outdoor exposure or to the winter/summer seasons. When the eyes perceive darkness, information is sent to the brain to build up the body’s melatonin in preparation for sleep mode.

Inositol

A necessary component of every cellular membrane in the body and plays a role in synthesizing cellular messengers. Myo-inositol is the most important stereoisomer and it is the precursor of inositol compounds, such as inositol pyrophosphates, inositol sphingolipids, and inositol polyphosphates. Although inositol is not an essential vitamin, deficiency may occur due to reduced dietary intake, enhanced catabolism or excretion, decreased biosynthesis, certain medications, and suppression of intestinal absorption

L-Theanine

A nonprotein amino acid found in green tea with anxiolytic and stress-reducing effects that have been shown to promote relaxation and support sleep. L-theanine may also promote the release of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), which regulates serotonin and dopamine levels. Studies have found that L-theanine also lowers cortisol production

5-hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP)

An important precursor to serotonin and melatonin. The enzyme tryptophan hydroxylase produces 5-HTP from the amino acid tryptophan. Then 5-HTP is decarboxylated to become serotonin, a neurotransmitter involved in mood modulation, cognition, learning, memory, reward, and sleep. Melatonin is produced from serotonin. The production of 5-HTP is considered a rate-limiting step in the serotonin and melatonin production pathway. Supplementation may improve serotonin and melatonin production.

Vitamin B-6 (as pyridoxal-5-phosphate)

Acts as a coenzyme in the synthesis of neurotransmitters including serotonin. The conversion of tryptophan into 5-HTP and of 5-HTP into serotonin requires pyridoxal phosphate (PLP), which is derived from vitamin B6. PLP also acts as a coenzyme in the synthesis of dopamine, norepinephrine, and GABA. Having adequate levels of vitamin B6 to support serotonin synthesis also influences melatonin production, as it is a precursor
